FAQ's

Cosmetic tattooing, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation, is the process of implanting colour pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes or shading to enhance the natural features of the face.

A highly-effective, topical anaesthetic cream is used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anaesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long.

Please be aware when booking a lip procedure, if you have ever had an outbreak of cold sores, you must consult with your doctor for a prescription of Valtrex or similar product prior to your procedure.

Cosmetic tattoo treatments will not wash off, however, they will fade over time and may need to be refreshed every 1-3 years. Frequency of sessions depends on a number of factors including: the pigment colour used, skin type, lifestyle (sun exposure), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.

For most clients, a minimum of two treatments are usually needed, at least 6 weeks apart. With most procedures, the colour looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients prefer this, while others opt for a bolder look. At the second session, we will assess the colour retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly after the first session, do not worry! We can always go darker and add more density at your next appointment.

Your semi-permanent makeup will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal.

The procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges and with digitally controlled implantation device. There are no long-term side effects; short-term effects may include some redness, swelling, and tenderness.

We will conduct an extensive consultation regarding both the exact shape and colour desired. We will recommend the specific treatment and shades to best complement your skin tones, hair colour and lifestyle. Additionally, we will demonstrate expected results by applying pencilled makeup on you before implanting the colour into the skin.

As a precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.

– Sun exposure: the sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, so sunblock should be used (once healed) to prolong your enhancement.

– The regeneration of skin cells: the longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.

– The choice of colour: some colours fade quicker than others, e.g. A blonde colour will fade quicker than a dark brown colour.

– Bleeding during the procedure: any bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken prior to and following your appointment.

– Aftercare: failure to follow the aftercare diligently during the first 2 weeks of healing can contribute to less than desired results. For example sweating during healing can effect the appearance of the hair strokes when fully healed.

– Skin Type: The type of skin plays a significant role in how long the pigment retains its colour. Oily skin types may experience faster fading compared to dry or combination skin.

Generally speaking, we recommend to wait at least 4 weeks before we apply any permanent eyebrows, eyeliner, or lip liner/colour. It may be necessary to wait a few more weeks after laser resurfacing or chemical peel.

  • Those who are under the age of 18.
  • Those who are diabetics dependent on insulin.
  • Those allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine.
  • Those who are on steroids.
  • Those who are on acne medication such as Accutane. This makes the skin extremely thin and sensitive. Please wait between 6 months to a year before scheduling.
  • Those who have had any blepharoplasty or similar surgeries around the brow area, please wait at least 3 months before scheduling an appointment.
  • Those with any type of healing disorder or major heart problems. Any medical condition that prevents your blood from clotting or affects your skin can lead to less than desirable healed results (ex. blurred hairstrokes, migration of pigment under the skin, and extreme fading).
  • Those who have gastrointestinal diseases, kidney failure, liver deficiency.
  • Those who have exacerbation of chronic illness.
  • Those with active inflammatory skin conditions near the procedure area, such as psoriasis, eczema, keloid scarring, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, shingles, or open cuts or sores.
  • Those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the appointment
  • Those who have active allergic skin conditions like dermatitis or atopic dermatitis
  • Those who are actively going through chemotherapy or currently have cancer
  • Those who have autoimmune diseases (excluding Alopecia)
  • Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Those with viral infections or diseases, or epilepsy
  • Any treatment, medication, or illness that compromises the immune system/healing would NOT make you a good candidate for micropigmentation procedures.
