SPMU Prep & Aftercare

Before your treatment

  • Please be aware that this is a 2 STAGE TREATMENT. Your treatment is not deemed complete until you have had both treatments where we both can assess the results. Your second session should follow within 5 – 12 weeks
  • Permanent Makeup results can change depending on the skin, the client’s lifestyle and health
  • You CANNOT have any treatments if pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You CANNOT have any treatments if taking blood thinners
  • NO Botox treatments should be done 4 weeks prior or after procedure
  • Please leave 14 days post treatment if you have any MRI scans
  • NO sun exposure 14 days pre treatment
  • DO NOT have any type of facial / peel 14 days prior to treatment
  • DO NOT take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)
  • NO brow wax, tint or spray tans 7 days prior to treatment (brow treatment)
  • NO lash serums can be used at least 3 months prior to treatment (eyeliner treatment)
  • Medication must be taken (e.g. Zovirax) 5 days prior and 5 days after the treatment if you suffer or have had cold sores (lip blush treatment)
  • Ensure your lips are moisturised and no dry/chapped skin in present. This will result in poor healed results. Keep using lip balm and exfoliate your lips at least a week prior to treatment (lip blush treatment)
  • DO NOT take an aspirin prior to treatment (this thins the blood)
  • DO NOT have coffee or alcohol 24h before treatment
  • DO NOT smoke the morning of your treatment
  • DO NOT work out the day of the treatment

After your treatment

IMPORTANT REMINDERS (all PMU treatments)
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour. No scratching or rubbing the treated area.
  • No heavy sweating, saunas, swimming pools, sunbeds or sunny holidays at least 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.
  • Use a clean pillowcase.
  • Do not apply any products (makeup, creams, sunscreen) that aren’t in your aftercare pack to the treated area during the healing process.
  • No botox, chemical peels or fillers 4 weeks after your procedure.
  • After first 14 days you can resume most of your normal activities. For long lasting results continue avoiding things like chemical peels and sun exposure to the treated area. Use sunscreen and hats. Anything that damages or removes skin will also damage or remove the pigment in the skin and cause the PMU to fade faster.

Failure to follow aftercare instructions will result in poor colour retention and possible  infection. At first sign of infection please see your doctor. Symptoms include excessive swelling, severe redness, white or yellow discharge.

BROW AFTERCARE

  • Do not apply excessive amounts of after care balm on brows, small rice sized amount is plenty to keep your brows moist.
  • Apply aftercare balm to dry brows ONLY. Use cotton bud to apply balm.
  • Do not get your brows wet besides cleaning them.
  • Do not use washcloth or makeup wipes to clean your brows. Use a clean cotton pad. Slightly damp it with clean water and very gently dab the brows.

DAY 1

After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean cotton pad to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 30 minutes until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents scabbing.

DAYS 2-14

GENTLY wash the area each morning and night with water and mild, non scented soap or an unscented cleanser like Dial Soap, Cetaphil, or baby shampoo to remove bacteria, build up of product and oils, and dead skin. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the area for 10 seconds and rinse to ensure all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue or cotton pad.DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or exfoliants.

DAYS 4-14

Starting with day 4 apply a tiny, rice grain amount of aftercare balm twice a day with a cotton bud and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The product should be barely noticeable on the skin. NEVER put the product on a wet or damp tattoo.

LIP AFTERCARE

  • After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean cotton pad to absorb excess lymph fluid and tiny blood spots. Do this every 30 minutes until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents scabbing
  • Refrain from eating for a few hours. Drink through a straw. If you experience intense swelling or bruising use an ice pack.
  • Clean your lips in the mornings, evenings and after each meal with boiled warm water.
  • Keep applying a thin layer of the aftercare ointment provided in your aftercare pack every waking hour.
  • Don’t get toothpaste on your lips it will sting.
  • Don’t eat spicy, salty or acid foods – they’ll sting.
  • Don’t drink anything too hot – it’ll trigger swelling.
  • Don’t drink red wine as it will stain your lips and you will be tempted to pick scabs.

EYELINER AFTERCARE

  • After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean cotton pad to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 30 minutes until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents scabbing.
  • If you experience intense swelling or bruising, use an ice pack.
  • Do not get your eyes wet besides cleaning them.
  • Do not use washcloth or makeup wipes to clean your eyes. Use a clean cotton pad. Slightly dampen it with clean water and very gently clean the eyes. Clean twice a day.
  • Starting with day 3 apply balm using a clean cotton bud. Apply aftercare balm to dry eyes ONLY.
  • Do not apply excessive amounts of after care balm on eyeliner, small rice sized amount is plenty to keep your eyeliner moist. It should be barely noticeable on your skin.

REMEMBER

The healing process requires patience.

Permanent makeup is a two-stage process, and you will require a touch up within 5-12 weeks for long-lasting results. It’s important to wait until the treated area is properly healed (after your touch up appointment) before making a final judgment about it.

Permanent makeup is an art, not a science. Your results will vary and using small amount of makeup may still be needed. This is not necessarily a no maintenance treatment, but a low maintenance treatment. I simply want to create a solid base from which you can wake up with confidence, go out without a worry and add your own twists and shades to in order to create new looks for special occasions.

Healing is specific to each client and it’s important to realise that you’ll need a colour boost every 12 / 24 / 36 months depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
